These were still very much in use when I was a kid although we were a bit "Posh" as we had a galvanized wash tub. Actually we had an electric washing machine that was saved when we were "sold up"but seeing as how we had no electricity it was not a lot of use so it was the old wash board and hand wringer and it was my job to wind the damn thing. That and cleaning the kerosene lamp chimneys were the two chores I disliked the most. Also I was not very fond of chopping fire wood either. A never ending job with "Fill the woodbox before you go." my grandmothers automatic response to seeing my skinny backside go out the door. We also had a refrigerator and a radio but they were the same without the "Juice".
ANOTHER FARM GOES ON THE BLOCK. This is how we bought all the livestock to stock our farm that we moved to in 1943 on my grandfathers retirement. This made possible by the Social Security that McSlime and the Neo-Nazi's want to privatize and turn over to Wall Street. If you want to support you parents in their old age just vote for them and see it happen.
As I have stated previously all of these photos were taken during my life time. And all of them show a phase of the depression that I was quite familiar with. With the exception of the boys in the soup kitchen. I was never reduced to that but quite close as I was very undernourished as a child due simply to a lack of enough to eat. Obesity was NOT a problem in the '30's! And just so you understand how terrible this was and can possibly come to be, the photo of the two boys was taken in 1940. Almost 11 years after the stock market crash of 1929. THIS IS JUST TO SHOW YOU ALL WHAT I ALSO HAD TO CONTEND WITH. NOT THAT I WAS OF AN AGE WHERE THIS APPLIED BUT IT WASN'T JUST BEER THAT WAS NOT FOR US! THE "GOD BLESS AMERICA" BANNER JUST BELOW THE SIGN ADDS A NICE TOUCH DON'T YOU THINK? AND WHEN I WAS ALL GROWN UP AND AN OFFICER IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE THIS WAS STILLTHE LAW IN THE STATE WHERE I WAS BORN. DIE FOR YOUR COUNTRY, NO PROBLEM. HAVE A DRINK WITH YOUR BUDDIES. NOT ALLOWED!
